Popularmente este tipo de eclipses se conocen como "luna de sangre". Pero lo cierto es que la Luna adquiere una tonalidad rojiza porque la atmósfera terrestre filtra todos los componentes de la luz blanca solar y la luz roja es la única que llega al satélite.

Así lo explicó a Efe Mario Tafalla, del Observatorio Astronómico Nacional español, quien subrayó que es precisamente esta luz roja la que provoca que la luna se vea de ese color rojizo.

Un eclipse lunar se produce cuando la Tierra se coloca entre el Sol y la Luna, bloqueando que los rayos solares puedan llegar al satélite, y el del lunes coincidió con lo que se conoce como "superluna", aunque este no es un término astronómico.
